ISC Attends 152nd IPU Assembly in Istanbul; Congratulates First Female Secretary-General Anda Filip

The Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC) Secretariat is pleased to report that an ISC delegation participated in the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Istanbul, Türkiye from April 15 to 19, 2026. Hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, the Assembly convened under the theme "Nurturing Hope, Securing Peace and Ensuring Justice for Future Generations," drawing approximately 2,000 delegates from 150 countries.
A Historic Milestone for International Leadership
The Assembly marked a landmark moment in IPU history with the election of Anda Filip as the organization's ninth Secretary-General — and the first woman to hold the position in the IPU's 137-year history. The ISC delegation extended its warmest congratulations to Secretary-General-elect Filip, recognizing her election as a defining step forward for women's leadership in international governance.
On behalf of the ISC Secretariat, the delegation conveyed a strong commitment to forging a close and sustained cooperation framework with the IPU, to jointly address the pressing challenges of our time — from advancing parliamentary democracy to promoting intergenerational justice and durable peace.

Consistent with the Assembly's overarching agenda, the ISC Secretariat reaffirmed its organizational commitment to empowering the next generation of parliamentary leaders. The ISC envisions a future in which young talent plays a central and decisive role in securing lasting peace and justice through legislative engagement at both national and international levels.
