ISC meets global parliamentary leaders at 151st IPU Assembly in Geneva

Geneva, Switzerland – October 19-23, 2025
The ISC delegation led by Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal and accompanied by Director Hajime Saito attended the 151st assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The 151st Assembly of the IPU took place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 19-23 October 2025. All IPU statutory bodies, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, Committees on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians and on Middle East Questions, as well as the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and the Forum of Young MPs, met on this occasion. The IPU has 183 member Parliaments from around the world.
The ISC Secretary General interacted with the speakers from Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, Australia, Fiji, Bahrain, Oman, Kenya, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Niger, ECOWAS Parliament, Nigeria, and Arab Parliament. In addition, the ISC delegation also interacted with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong and the heads of parliamentary delegations from India, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Italy, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, UAE among others. The ISC delegation collaborated with the Pakistani Senate and National Assembly delegation in reaching out to Parliaments for ISC's Islamabad conference in November. ISC was able to familiarize itself among the world parliaments and demonstrated its commitment to global cooperation. ISC is also pursuing an application to the IPU to obtain permanent observer status in the future. There is a growing interest among the global parliamentary community to join ISC.
The General Debate focused on the overall theme: "Upholding humanitarian norms and supporting humanitarian action in times of crisis", providing a platform for delegates to deliberate, exchange views and galvanize parliamentary action in this area. The Assembly also adopted resolutions on the emergency item and on the subject item taken up by the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights entitled "Recognizing and supporting the victims of illegal international adoption and taking measures to prevent this practice".
